Goodbye Tampons, Hello Menstrual Cups! – Episode 92

This episode reviews an article from racked.com entitled Goodbye Tampons: Why Menstrual Cups May Be the Future of Period Care, written by Heather Schwedel.

I’ve mentioned before, in Episode 18 – Menstrual Cups Are For You and For Me! that I have used a menstrual cups for years and I love it! There are so many benefits to using one, things that you might not even expect! Join me for this episode as we look at this article and talk more about why menstrual cups are becoming increasingly popular.

One reason that I love, is that that requires you to have a greater contact and understanding of your body during that time of the month, just like when you’re having period sex!

15 Issues that Women (But Not Men) Have to Think About: A Text-Only Post Today

Hello All!

First off, I’d like to apologize for not posting yesterday and for offering a text-only post today.

My biggest reason is that the 2 upcoming episodes deal with heaver subject matter and I wanted to spend some time researching to do them justice. This episodes are:

  • Your Sexual History: How Negative Sexual Experiences Shape You – Episode 73
  • Your Sexual History: How Negative Relationship Experiences Shape You – Episode 74

A second reason is that we’ve have some power outages due to winter weather, and we’re still trying to catch up around here. :)

Today I wanted to offer you an article that I found interesting and largely true. It’s called 15 Issues Women Deal With Daily That Men Might Not Know About, by Vicki Santillano.

I encourage you to check out the article and send me your feedback. What do you agree or disagree with?

I found most of the main points interesting… Except a few. Numbers 3 and 12 I find to be a bit ridiculous. I don’t see how they are really on the same scale as number 2, “Having to Think About Your Safety All the Time.” Do you?

Let’s Not Be Squeamish About Our Vaginal Goo, Ya’ll – Episode 70

This episode focuses mostly on the subject of these two articles:

A Brief Chat With a Woman Who Made Yogurt From Her Vaginal Secretions – a Jezebel article by Mark Shrayber

How to Make Breakfast With Your Vagina – a Motherboard article by Janet Jay

As you can now probably guess, this episode is a discussion about a woman who made yogurt with her vaginal juices and reported on its flavor… A fact that I find inspiring and fantastic! In addition, I delve deeper into the world (ours) where people get so freaked out over anything that comes out of a woman’s ho-ha (except babies).

Why is it okay for semen cookbooks to exit while the idea of eating vaginal yogurt seems gross?

Why does eating vaginal yogurt feel so taboo?

How can we cure our communities of the “Eww, gross!” response to all things that emerge from our fantastic private parts?

This episode will be a great second or third course to these other episodes about the fabulous ecosystem of the vagina: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Vaginas and CervixesEverything You Ever Wanted to Know About Vaginas and Vulvas, and Menstrual Cups Are For You and For Me!

Genital Juices: What’s Going on Down There? – Episode 57

This episode wades through the many juices that we come to know in our genital regions! Of course there’s our periods (don’t forget about period sex!), sweat (which is healthy and natural for you!) and your natural vaginal and cervical discharge.

Lubrication and the many other liquids that we encounter in this area are something that we usually fail to talk about. I know that personally, I always thought that my partner’s juices were the ones that dominated the scene after sex, but little did I know it was really my body making most of the lubrication that I was seeing. Your internal self is mysterious place, one that works so well that we rarely even know all of its secrets!

Our own discharge and lubrication can depend on our hormone levels, our diet, health status, and our time of the month!

Crazy Myths About Vaginas and Women’s Bodies – Episode 35

This episode highlights some hilarious, bizarre, and downright disturbing myths about vaginas and women’s bodies! Thankfully, nobody (well, almost nobody) believes these crazy ideas anymore, but they do help us understand the sexual history of our country and the way it regards women today. These crazy myths have been pulled from a Huffington Post article by Amanda Scherker, which allows me to point out how the history and legacy of these myths that is embedded in our culture today.

Would you ever have guessed that once women were thought of as having a “cold” genital region and an almost absent sex drive (also check out my overview of the history of the vibrator)? What about periods? Could they have been considered life-threatening dangers to men (what does that mean about period sex today?)?

I also briefly mention the fantastic book, Woman: An Intimate Geography by Natalie Angier, which reminds us that women aren’t Adams’ rib, after all! Check out today’s episode!

Menstrual Cups Are For You and For Me! – Episode 18

Menstrual cups are some of the greatest things ever, like, EVER!

I found menstrual cups for dealing with my period many years ago and I haven’t looked back to tampons or pads since! Menstrual cups, like the Diva Cup, are far more affordable than tampons or pads (costing around$50 for 5-10 years of use), easy to use and clean, fun and scientific (since you must get a little bit down and dirty to use them), and have no associated trash (like wrappings, applicators, and the tampons and pads themselves).

If you’re interested in taking charge of your period and your body in a hands-on, awesome way (trust me, you are!), a menstrual cup is right for you! Check out this episode for the dirty details about sticking a rubbery cup up your vagina!
