2 Shows That Offer a Different Look at Womanhood – Episode 118

This episode highlights two great shows from Netflix, Orange is the New Black and Grace and Frankie.

I don’t usually do a mini-study on TV shows, but I was so impressed by these shows that I just had to!

They both look at womanhood with different perspectives than the view we are used to seeing in the media!

Orange is the New Black has a ensemble cast filled with a variety of great characters. These characters face a similar life in prison but have come from very different pasts. The characters in this show identify in very different ways: black, white, Latina, Asian, old, young, lesbian, bisexual, trans, sick, healthy, urban, rural… And many more!

Grace and Frankie looks at starting over in life through the eyes of two, very different 70-year-old women. In what other show can you watch older woman be sexual, say “shit,” and talk about vaginal dryness? None, I say!

If you’re looking for a new show that looks at the real lives of women, check out this episode for two great ideas!

Dressing Your Age: The Myth – Episode 117

This episode looks at the huge myth that is “Dressing Your Age.”

What a ridiculous thought! Wear what you feel comfortable in, no matter what it looks like to others!

Wear what you want, even if it’s:

  • Mismatched socks
  • Bedazzled clothes
  • Overalls
  • T-shirts with graphics

The Pleasures of Being a Dirty Woman (Perhaps Not What You Think!) – Episode 112

This episode looks at the reasons why I love being a dirty woman. When I say dirty, I mean dirt-dirty, not a dirty-talker.

I also look at the language difference between dirty–a word with a soiled and ruined connotation and dirty–a word with an exalted yet grounded connotation. You have to understand the difference between the usages of the word to truly understand why I love being a dirty woman.

The pleasures of being dirty exist in stages. They are:

  • Starting off clean
  • Getting dirty, smelly, maybe sun-kissed, bug-bitten, and/or cut by doing a physical activity and completing a valuable task
  • Getting clean again and in doing so reminding yourself that you can embody both classic femininity and also dirty and strong femininity

Check out this episode… You kind of have to hear it to understand it!

The Female Armpit Hair Debate – Episode 110

This episode highlights the female armpit hair debate… Although it really doesn’t make sense that there is a debate at all!

It is becoming more common for women to grow out their armpit hair, and the fad has even been seen in the celebrity world.

This episode looks at the history of women shaving their armpit hair and some of the reasons why people might be for or against the idea…

Reasons Why You Might Not Want An Engagement Ring… – Episode 102

You might be married or engaged or perhaps you’re just thinking about what that might mean for you…

Many people take the concept of receiving an engagement ring upon getting engaged for granted… Which isn’t a bad thing at all. It is always interesting to think about what such a ring means to you, your partner, and to society.

This episode looks at an article entitled The 6 Reasons I Insisted on Not Having An Engagement Ring by Rebecca Vipod Brink. It takes a look at a few points you might not know about engagement rings…

  • Their historical significance
  • How much they actually cost
  • What you might rather spend your money on

I also tell you all about what Jason and I decided to do about rings when we got engaged!

Gender Identity, Sexuality, and Beyond – Episode 99

This episode will hopefully shed some light on some terms you might not know related to LGBTQ+ identity. Some of these terms reference gender, some sexuality, and others a combination of both.

Although I certainly do not know very much about this topic, I am interested in learning more. Join me as we talk about…

  • The difference between intersex and intergender
  • What is queer anyway?
  • The difference between transgender and transsexual
  • What is a cis person?
  • And many, many more…

15 Issues that Women (But Not Men) Have to Think About: A Text-Only Post Today

Hello All!

First off, I’d like to apologize for not posting yesterday and for offering a text-only post today.

My biggest reason is that the 2 upcoming episodes deal with heaver subject matter and I wanted to spend some time researching to do them justice. This episodes are:

  • Your Sexual History: How Negative Sexual Experiences Shape You – Episode 73
  • Your Sexual History: How Negative Relationship Experiences Shape You – Episode 74

A second reason is that we’ve have some power outages due to winter weather, and we’re still trying to catch up around here. :)

Today I wanted to offer you an article that I found interesting and largely true. It’s called 15 Issues Women Deal With Daily That Men Might Not Know About, by Vicki Santillano.

I encourage you to check out the article and send me your feedback. What do you agree or disagree with?

I found most of the main points interesting… Except a few. Numbers 3 and 12 I find to be a bit ridiculous. I don’t see how they are really on the same scale as number 2, “Having to Think About Your Safety All the Time.” Do you?

Let’s Not Be Squeamish About Our Vaginal Goo, Ya’ll – Episode 70

This episode focuses mostly on the subject of these two articles:

A Brief Chat With a Woman Who Made Yogurt From Her Vaginal Secretions – a Jezebel article by Mark Shrayber

How to Make Breakfast With Your Vagina – a Motherboard article by Janet Jay

As you can now probably guess, this episode is a discussion about a woman who made yogurt with her vaginal juices and reported on its flavor… A fact that I find inspiring and fantastic! In addition, I delve deeper into the world (ours) where people get so freaked out over anything that comes out of a woman’s ho-ha (except babies).

Why is it okay for semen cookbooks to exit while the idea of eating vaginal yogurt seems gross?

Why does eating vaginal yogurt feel so taboo?

How can we cure our communities of the “Eww, gross!” response to all things that emerge from our fantastic private parts?

This episode will be a great second or third course to these other episodes about the fabulous ecosystem of the vagina: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Vaginas and CervixesEverything You Ever Wanted to Know About Vaginas and Vulvas, and Menstrual Cups Are For You and For Me!
